Western Wonderland Roadtrip

On the way back to Virginia, we stopped to see all of my immediate family members, each in a different town. My sister and her family were in Ogallala, Nebraska. My Mom and my stepdad, Tim, in Grand Island, Nebraska. And my Dad and Judy in Ionia, Iowa.

Dead Car
My 2000 Saturn after Chris killed her . . . were in route to TAG for a long weekend of caving adventures. I was raining in Cleveland, Tenn., and he was driving very aggressively. My Saturn was loaded down with rope, camping and caving gear. A stopped truck with a foot-long toe hitch did this to my car after he slid into it. She died with 202,316 miles on the odometer and her final resting place will be Tennessee.

She will be greatly missed. I bought her new off the lot in Lincoln, Nebr., and she has taken me coast to coast in all of my adventures since 2000.

Bridge Day

My first Bridge Day in West Virginia! Bridge Day is the largest one-day festival in West Virginia. On the third Saturday in October, they close down the bridge to traffic and open it up to rappellers and BASE jumpers to have fun on the 876-foot tall structure!

The New River Gorge Bridge is the world’s third longest steel arch bridge with a main span of 1,700 feet. At 876 feet above the New River, the New River Gorge Bridge is the third highest bridge in the United States and the thirteenth highest bridge in the world.

Below is members from my team walking to the Bridge early in the morning to rig our rope.

Old Rag Trail

Cannot get enough of the fall colors!

This is on the Old Rag Trail in Shenandoah National Park, my favorite 8-mile trail in the park.

And of course a self portrait while hiking on the trails.
