"The real thing that I'm talking about has purity and a certain severity, rigor, or simplicity, directness, clarity, and it is without artistic pretension in a self-conscious sense of the word."

-Walker Evans

As a photojournalist, I strive to be educated in all facets of my field and in practice to accurately use the camera as a tool to document the everyday and the extraordinary occurrences of the human experience.

I have practical experience in all aspects of photography and photojournalism. I can operate SLR Canon and Nikon cameras, both in film and digital, along with the older cameras such as the A-1, FM3, K1000, etc. I have worked with Wing-Lynch processors, flatbed and film scanners of all brands. But I pride myself in having the knowledge to process and print the now seemingly archaic b&w and color negatives (C-41/RA) and positives (E6/R-3000).

As with the territory of photojournalism, I know Macintosh computers and transmit photos from location. Programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Photo Mechanic and QuarkXPress are used daily. I use studio and portable light kits.

I have received many several awards through the years from state news and photography associations like the Virginia Press Association & Kentucky Press Association, VNPA, KNPA, the Associated Press and NPPA monthly clip contests in sports, features, illustration, pictorial, multiple features, multiple sports, portrait and general news.

My biggest accomplishment has been winning 2004 Newspaper of the Year in photography, Division 2 (under 50,000 circ.), from the Kentucky News Photographer's Association. I was the only photojournalist on staff at the time for the Times-Tribune.
